A Petition for Relative is the first step in helping an eligible relative apply to immigrate to the United States and eventually obtain a Green Card. This petition establishes the qualifying relationship between the petitioner (the U.S. citizen or permanent resident) and the beneficiary (the relative seeking to immigrate). Once the petition is approved, and if a visa is available, the relative can proceed with the next steps in the process toward obtaining lawful permanent residency.
